If you've been following our series on medical billing and GE0 host for the electronic filing claims with NSF 3 / 01 specifications, we are exactly two-thirds of the way through the review of the GE0. We get rate in this area with number 21 for billing enteral nutrition.

GE0 field 21, positions 86 - 89, is the product of calories 1 field. This field displays the wearer how many calories per day that the patient is always of Product 1 Many people ask why this is so according to this way. The answer is simply that some patients actually prescribed multiple products, each with a different calorie requirement.

GE0 field 22, position 90 - 94, is the procedure HCPCS field. This field displays the institution of the proceedings is that code related to this product. Even though it reported a procedure code with the R-Record, the CMN must include a procedure code transmitted.

GE0 fields 23 and 24, position 95 - 98, are the HCPCS modifier codes. These are codes that essentially say that the carrier which month of billing for these items. The software is programmed to recognize that this and the corresponding code on the fly, without the biller to enter.

GE0 field 25, positions 99 to 101, the enteral frequency range. This field shows the carrier, how many times per day the patient must be fed.

GE0 field 26, positions 102 to 201, is the narrative. As in the following installments, this area is used for a variety of reasons. In principle and according to the official Medicare handbook, this area is to be used "to describe special circumstances, medical reasons or any additional comments necessary for the proper decision on the claim." In other words, everything you can. However, they are limited to 100 characters, so keep it short.

GE0 field 27, positions 202 to 216, is the name of the product 2 Field. This field tells the carrier the name of the second product that the patient needs. If the patient is only one product, then this field is left blank.

GE0 field 28, position 217 - 220, is the calories of product 2 area. This field displays the wearer how many calories per day, the patient, the product of 2nd If a product is not 2, then this field is left blank.

GE0 field 29, position 221 - 223, is the frequency range of product 2. This field displays the institution, how often the patient must be fed 2nd product If there is not a product, 2, then this field is left blank.

GE0 field 30, position 224 - 320, is filler national. This field must be filled with spaces or the claim is rejected.

Just a short note before the end of this installment. When multiple products, the calories and feedings can not exceed the total calories and Feeding of CMN as prescribed.
