EA0 field 1, positions 1 a.m. to 3 p.m., the record type will be met with EA0. Everything else in this area, and the claim will be denied.

EA0 line 2, position 4-5, is reserved for future use. Like all other areas in NSF 3 / 01 specifications, it is unlikely that this area will always be used if it is not from today.

EA0 field 3, positions 6-22, the patient ID number. This number must match the patient ID number is transmitted to the Ca0, DA0 and all other records sent the information for the patient.

EA0 area 6, position 25, is the symptom indicator. This is a code that describes what the patient is experiencing symptoms related to their condition. These are only general codes and do not go into details.

EA0 field 7, positions 26 to 33, is the accident / symptom day. This is the date on which the patients first started showing symptoms of the disease or symptoms of the accident, if it was an accident. This date must be in the proper form as required by the carriers, which either yyyymmdd or MMDDYYYY.

EA0 field 8, positions 34 - 38, is the external cause of the accident. When was an accident, this area tells the client what the cause of the accident was. This is also for legal purposes in the event of litigation.

EA0 area 9, item 39, is the responsibility indicator. This field tells the client, when the accident took place when it was caused by a third party. This is again necessary for legal reasons.
