EA0 field 7, positions 26 to 33, is the accident / symptom day. This is the date on which the patients first started showing symptoms of the disease or symptoms of the accident, if it was an accident. This date must be in the proper form as required by the carriers, which either yyyymmdd or MMDDYYYY.

EA0 field 8, positions 34 - 38, is the external cause of the accident. When was an accident, this area tells the client what the cause of the accident was. This is also for legal purposes in the event of litigation.
