average blood pressure readings
If a study conducted in 2004 a link between melatonin and high blood pressure relief?

High blood pressure is at a greater health risk, especially in industrialized nations. Americans and Europeans see alarming rise in cases of high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels.

This problem has been to a number of factors, including poor diet, sedentary jobs, long hours, lack of cardiovascular exercise, obesity and high stress.

There are a number of pharmaceutical options that are available to someone with high blood pressure, and this treatment usually accompany instructions to significant changes to the blood pressure to a safe level in the future.

This process may take several months, and it is important to have regular checks carried out by your doctor to ensure that progress is being made.

So it is not surprising, there was interest when a study conducted in the Netherlands by Dr. FAJL Steer, now at Harvard Medical School, found that people who suffer from hypertension, which are regularly in the night melatonin could lower their blood pressure levels.

To understand why this may be the case.

Melatonin is a hormone that is naturally occurring in our body and is affected by the pineal gland, a small pea size, the structure is in the middle of the brain. Melatonin in the night and helps to stabilize the body during sleep and wake cycles.

As a person, age, level of melatonin tends to decrease, and this may in some way to explain why older people seem less sleep, or find it difficult to sleep.

The research team organized for the 16 men who suffer from untreated hypertension, either 2.5mg of melatonin every night one hour before bedtime or a placebo.

After 3 weeks the subjects, the melatonin significantly lower blood pressure than the subjects of the placebo.

Therefore anecdote, on the basis of the study was that if someone on melatonin for a longer period, then this might be to stabilize the blood pressure levels.

The team noted that a single dose of melatonin was not effective in the treatment of high blood pressure problems, and it took a few days after the scheme to see a difference to blood pressure values.

However, it is difficult to improved blood pressure values of melatonin only, as the improvement may be related to the subject is always a better quality and potentially more sleep per night.

There are certainly some compelling evidence that shows that sleep deprived people higher blood pressure readings than those who want a healthy sleep night.

On the basis of a study that only 16 people, it is not possible or reasonable, that it has sufficient evidence to show that melatonin does not lower blood pressure, but it seems to be a reason for further research.

It is a shame that no further research seems to have been carried out since, for more evidence of a link between melatonin and high blood pressure, relief of symptoms.
